We Were at the New Medina
In our series of articles, “We Were At,” we delve into the hidden gems and unique experiences that Tunisia has to offer. This series is designed to be open-ended, reflecting our ongoing explorations and revisits to various locations over time. With each visit, we uncover new stories, adding fresh updates to our narrative. Our goal is to provide a living, breathing document that evolves with our discoveries, offering readers an ever-expanding view of Tunisia’s rich culture and history.
Our journey always begins with a visit to a different café in the Medina. By trying a new café each time, we explore the diverse experiences and flavors that the Medina has to offer. This ritual not only invigorates us but also grounds us in the local culture. Whether it’s a robust espresso, a delicate herbal infusion, or a traditional cup of mint tea, the variety and richness of the Medina’s cafés set the perfect tone for our adventures, preparing us for the discoveries ahead.
Our latest exploration led us to the new Medina office situated at Bab El Gharbi, an iconic historical site in Sousse, Tunisia. Known as the “Western Gate,” Bab El Gharbi is one of the original entrances carved into the fortifications of the Medina of Sousse during the Aghlabid dynasty. Unlike other gates that were established in the 19th century, Bab El Gharbi has been a sentinel of history since ancient times, its formidable structure featuring machicolation designed for defensive purposes. Positioned strategically to the west of the Medina, it stands close to significant landmarks such as the Kasbah and the Archaeological Museum, and opens onto Souk El Caïd.
Situated in a historic and vintage part of Sousse, the new Medina office immediately captured our attention. As we approached, we were greeted by a stunning large vintage door, which set the tone for what lay inside. The door, adorned with intricate designs, is beautifully complemented by a large tree that decorates the entrance, creating an inviting and picturesque scene
Our exploration took us to the New Medina, a truly exceptional space where vintage elegance meets contemporary minimalism in a stunning confluence of design. This unique enclave is more than just a location; it is a living, breathing canvas where the charm of the past is seamlessly interwoven with the aesthetics of the present.
As we entered the New Medina, we were immediately enveloped by its artistic ambiance. The decoration, a masterful blend of historical and modern elements, transformed the space into a dynamic and immersive experience. Every detail, from the intricate vintage door to the modern minimalist accents, reflects a deep appreciation for Sousse’s cultural heritage.
The New Medina stands as a testament to the philosophy of homecoming. Designed as a sanctuary for friends and a space to feel at home, it invites visitors to experience the beauty of Sousse in a setting that balances work and leisure. The commitment to regenerative economy and sustainable development is evident throughout, making it a hub where artistic and historical exploration thrives.
The New Medina is not merely a destination but a vibrant narrative of Sousse’s rich cultural landscape. It embodies the essence of the city, inviting everyone to partake in its artistic and historical splendor.
