The ultimate “Kiff” of Mirsa
Tunisians have many unique customs and traditions, some of which we share with the people of North Africa. Which we consider part of it culturally, intellectually and geographically.
Among these rituals, we mention sitting in the middle of the house and spreading the mattress, which we usually do hours before the sunset of a summer day.
We asked Mirsa how he spends his “Kiff” time and he answered like this :
When did this habit start ?
“Before becoming a habit, it is above all a beautiful memory. I remember those family moments in the evenings in the courtyard of the family home.”
“I have this imperishable memory of me as a child sleeping with my sister in my father and my mother’s room, on the bluish whitewashed wall the projection of the shadow of the window grilles generated by the small light bulb outside, the delicate sound the breath of the air conditioner and the voice of the members of my family watching the stars from that window. This moment was clearly magical for me.”
How does it feel when You spend your time there ?
“For all those memories described in the previous question. Being settled there today brings me back to those moments and gives me a real feeling of fullness and serenity. Even more when I share these moments with my family. It is a ritual that has not changed and will never change. Until the end of my life I will perpetuate this moment inch’allah.”
What is the strater pack prepared for this “Rakcha” ?
The summer evening starter pack is quite simple. Tea, tea and more tea.
More seriously, indeed a lot of tea because I drink a lot of it (red tea of course!) and my aunt always takes great pleasure in preparing it and sharing this ritual with me. And otherwise, everything is accompanied by fresh almonds that she breaks live, then lots of fruit and a few cakes. And of course the most important ingredients: lots of love and sharing.
Who is sitting there with you?
I share this moment with my family; Uncle, aunt, cousins
Usually what are the topics or the goal from sitting there?
Basically, settling in the courtyards in the summer is above all to capture a little freshness. We also sleep there on summer nights. It’s funny at times to hear snoring in the other courtyards of neighboring houses. A real symphony.
For the subjects there are many. Family, politics, philosophy, … But gossip remains the most exciting subject.
