Matmata is a small town in southern Tunisia, best known for its underground cave or troglodyte structures, which house some of the local Berber population, this village is near Gabes, an important city near the coast oasis. Famous for its unique traditional architecture of handmade underground dwellings., its most known building is the Hotel Sidi Driss, which served as the Lars Homestead ,the home of Luke Skywalker and his Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru Lars in the StarWars movies on the planet Tatooine. it was used in 1976 as a filming location for Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, It was featured again in the 2002 prequel film Star Wars: Episode II โ Attack of the Clones. The coast side, the oasis , the dwellings, the legendary movies of star wars, the important presence tourists that visit the village as well this hotel since centuries, pushed me to create a proposal of an interior design for one hotel room of sidi driss hotel, into the trendy coastal minimal style , using the same shapes and structure of the room, keeping the stone material inside with natural color of earth ,i tried to refine colors to pastel tones, to make it suitable to a comfy stay place, contrasted it a bit with a touch of red color, which is a color very seen in Matmata, in carpets, textile ,traditional wears, we see this color also on the most known fruit in Gabes , the pomegranate. Finally, I integrated some decorative elements of star wars, which become among the history and the primordial reason for tourist visits to this beautiful village, as the helmet of darth vader and the moisture vapor. The domestic architecture of the medinas in Tunisia presents a stable architectural typology that is characterized by its unique design and noble materials such as ornaments, marble, wood, and ceramic tiles. This architectural heritage is also omnipresent in private homes and palaces. This is a Mediterranean model of patio houses which articulates the serving and serving spaces in a specific way. The project presents a revisited interior design of a reception hall in a traditional Tunisian house which was known as Bit el-Mejlis, customarily kept in Kairouan. Kairouan, also spelled Al Qayrawฤn, Located in the center of Tunisia, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site founded by the Umayyads around 670, known for its beautiful carpets and copper wares. The Mejlis is known as a reception room, T-shaped plan in which the ceiling is concealed, Painted in different colors generally, blue, yellow, brown, and green. It is usually decorated with various floral motifs, with leaves surrounded by vases. Its walls mostly are covered with porcelain squares, wooden hoists, and friezes decorated with vases. The idea was to enrich this charming Patrimonial space my way, conserving the original structure with its shapes and materials, changing some finishes, and arranging the space with luxury trendy branded furniture and accessories, finally playing a bit with the contrast and shades of a color palette inspired by Tunisian traditional houses. The large painting on the wall is the work of the great Tunisian artist Feryel Lakhdher. "Samiha Dhifaoui"
